The Dentists

No Museum of Music in Medway would be considered well-stocked without a specimen of The Dentists (in fact the Curator would be shot over his cocoa) so here they are in their "You And Your Bloody Oranges" era.
L to R...Ian Smith(drums) Bob Collins(guitar) Mick Murphy(vocals/guitar) Mark Matthews(bass)
There's not a lot I can tell you about this gloriously psychedelic band that's not already been said....so here's a Dentist joke:
A dentist married a manicurist...they've been fighting tooth and nail ever since.
(I'll get my coat)

Swinging Time

The Swinging Time...fronted by Gary Robertson produced formidable sounds indeed in the mid-80's...playing their rock 'n' roll bluesy pop to contented audiences around the towns with songs including "Tomorrow" and "Another Place, Another Time".

The Blood Junkies

I'm going to begin with The Blood Junkies...an odd little lot. Dennis Pearce on tutu and vocals was joined by the ineffable Piggy on guitar...and Jane and Tessa on supplementary vocals. I have made this odd band my first port of call because Dennis put much effort into his role as chief hack on the Spotlight page in the Chatham Standard for a huge chunk of the 80's....giving rave reviews and dark verbal beatings to many a local band. Forever etched into my cerebral data-bank is their searing rendition of "Ghost Riders In The Sky" at Chatham Town Hall...in a circa 1980 gig. Dennis was an old-school reporter who believed the best way to get your name in a newspaper was to walk across a busy street whilst reading one.

The Medway Music Museum

Welcome To The Medway Music Museum

This is a blog set up to show some of the old press-cuttings and pictures from the Medway Towns....predominantly in the 80's...but not exluding the 70's or 90's.
It's not supposed to be a Gold-Medallist in the field of blogging...so don't expect archives of perfection or catalogues of dexterity.
Most of these pictures are from my old scrap-books....yep...I was anal enough to dissect articles and stories from the Chatham Standard,Kent Evening Post,Adscene etc whilst you lot were out drinking and fighting and screwing (allegedly) How you all laughed...but who's laughing now...as I labour over my computer...as you lot are out there drinking and talking and moaning about the wind and rain?

Seriously though...good folk of Medway...I hope you find something to make you smile here. There are a lot of creased and yellowing articles here...that's why I am doing this...to save them before it's too late. I'll try to make some typed representations of the worst ones...but other than that...it's all in the name of authentic archiving. I'll do my best to tag all the bands mentioned.
If you find yourself here and you don't want to be here..let me know and I'll have you erased. Then I'll take you off this blog ;)
